    3 year old obsessed

So does anyone else have a toddler obsessed with "The Boys"?

I mean really!  I bought the Courage & Patience & Grit DVD in September and now that is all that my 3 year old will watch or listen to on the ride home every day from Daycare!

I really like the boys, don't get me wrong, but really EVERY DAY, the same disc!  When I first bought it I used to be able to get away with slipping another disc in while she watched it, and she didnt' catch on.  Then it had to still be the boys.  Now she knows the difference.  And I swear if I hear her singing Captain Kid one more time I am going to bust a gut laughing!

It is so cute when she brings it into the house, pops it into the DVD player and starts handing out intruments.  Her flute, her tambourine and her guitar.  She plays along with the boys and when Alan hangs his guitar at on his strap, so does she.

I do totally understand the attraction to the boys, but she just turned 3 years old a few months ago.  Maybe it is in her blood LOL.  Does anyone else have one of these?

My son just turned 4 on Friday (we had his party at the London Hilton the day after the show) and he knows England by heart...can sing the whole damn thing right down to pumping his fist at "...curse the cod with the fear of God..." Next on his list of top repeating loop songs are Donkey Riding (he's been riding dad's knee to that one since birth) Love Me Tonight and Oh Yeah...Music

aaah, children! gotta love 'em, they sure keep you at it in terms of undying fanship...

for my 2 english is their second language, they don't get all the lyrics and it's just hilarious to hear them sing along anyway ...absolute gem:' I love that girl with all my art' instead of 'heart' on my daughter's favourite 'mermy' song. gives it a whole new perspective, surely the shantyman wouldn't object to getting crafty

    Re: 3 year old obsessed

I wonder if the Boys know that their fan base is now extending itself to toddlers!

I exposed her at first, but it has taken on a whole new meaning with her.  It is adorable.

It did have one unexpected twist though.  Last week after the concert I was lucky enough to have my taken with Mr. Doyle :)  (as you can see by my avitar).  My daughter knew where we had gone to see "her Boys" (her words).  Thinking that she would be totally elated that Mommy met Alan I showed her the picture, which she though was a great picture.  I then asked her if she knew who it was in the picture.  She replied with "Mommy and Daddy"  I corrected her and told her it was Mommy and Alan.

She immediately turned sour faced, grit her teeth and told me to turn off the camera.  She then said that was "wrong", "Mommy is supposed to stand next to Daddy NOT Alan.  Ten minutes later, still apparently upset, she pulled me into the kitchen, pointed at the fridge where there hung a picture of her father and myself and spouted "see you are supposed to stand next to Daddy!"

I had to laugh before I and explained it to her.  I still don't understand if she was upset because I was standing next to "her" Alan, or because I was not standing beside her father.

She is over it now though and thinks it is really nifty that Mommy met Alan LOL.

That's too funny! Glad she finally thinks it was nifty though. Pictures with band members are always fun to get.

I have never even heard of RollPlay before.  Is it the rest of the album good too?  Is it a disc that I would have to order on line?

Here's a link to the end of song on YouTube. I'm not sure where you can find the rest of it, as I'm south of the border, but Sean sings the verses and the whole thing is almost 3 1/2 minutes long.

I'll never get over hearing Bob's baritone sing "I can wiggle my bum and I can slide on my tummy!"

It's a fun album.  Since all the tracks are by different artists it's quite an eclectic mix of musical styles sure to please kids and their grown-ups.  Way better than Barney (and most of  the kid stuff out there).

    Well, it continues :)

My daughter started school a few weeks ago, they start J/K at 3 and a half here.  We had the whole discussion after school the first day of why you attend, which lead to what does she want to be when she growes up.  She again told me that she already knows........She is going to play on stage and stand between Alan and Sean LOL.

It is so cute, she still holds on to her dream :)

    Re: 3 year old obsessed

Aww!  Loved reading the op and all replies.  Kids will be kids.  My only daughter just turned 2 and she definetly loves her some GBS!  Got her to say their name recently.  She thinks Sean is her daddy (in SOME photos I can see resemblance--namely in the one on this website, main page with changing photos--the one of Sean's side profile with mouth open, lol)... but I perhaps blush everytime she points at him and says "daddy" cuz I have a nice, friendly, fun crush on Sean!  =P  When she was younger, she was colicky and just a handful up until she was about a year old (even now we have those times/days), but GBS music was the only thing that we could listen to while in the car, lol.  I'm excited to take her to her first GBS concert someday.  Won't be this November when they are out here, but depending on the where/when, she'll be there shaking her booty!!

    Re: 3 year old obsessed

My little one turns 3 in November. I think she thinks we actually know Alan, Sean and Bob. She's into knowing who is singing each song when we listen to GBS. She's right more often than not in recognizing them too. Walk on the Moon is her current favorite, although she will complain that Donkey Riding is "stuck in her head." When it was on the other day she said "there's Alan singing." I told her Alan even wrote the song. "He writes good songs," she said. "Did Alan write the ABCs? Because that's a good song too." I laughed and said I thought Alan would appreciate that because he's a dad and has a little guy about her age at home. "Can I play with him sometime?" she asked.

We had dinner with friends the other night and were talking about GBS. They weren't that familiar with the band and little Anna just launched into listing all of the songs she likes. "And that Bob," she said. "He's sooooo talented. He plays all the instruments."

Somehow I recalled a song I learned as a child about a cat that falls off a roof while reading a love letter. He dies of his injuries but comes back to life when his funeral procession passes through a fish market. Anna just listened and laughed at the tale. "You should tell Sean about that song," she said. "He likes singing songs that tell stories like that." Funny how she linked him to the song about death. Maybe she's heard him sing Pat Murphy or General Taylor too many times?

    Cheers,

And when your children have all grown, you'll wait by the window and wish them all back home.
