Exorcism

Does anyone else remember the scene in "The Exorcist" where the possessed young girl's head spins a full 360 degrees around on her shoulders? Nasty bit of film making that. Intensely disturbing. Great.

McCann came home the other night convinced he had experienced "something supernatural" at the admittedly spooky Driskill hotel in Austin TX. Too be clear, I am not anti spirit but I do prefer mine poured out of a bottle as opposed to flowing from feeble minded "tipper heads" out looking for a place to play. So in honour of his obviously exaggerated and most likely imagined "encounter", I have decided to host a horror film festival on the bus. And I don't mean those trashy slasher bloodbaths bought to the big screen by the scissor fingered Freddy Kruger in "Nightmare on Elm Street" or the pre pubescent emo angst of the more recent "Twilight"  franchise. I'm talking about some good old fashioned, bone rattling, poltergeist pandemonium. The Exorcist. The Entity. The Changeling. The Omen (all the good ghosties apparently have "The" in the title). I'll have McCann's head spinning in no time.

And if he really wants to face his demons.....he need only look into a mirror.

If those don't do the trick, slip a copy of "The Shining" under his pillow, and I mean the book, not the movie.  While Jack Nicholson's performance in the movie does indeed make this a classic, the book is utterly terrifying, at least in my humble opinion.

Enjoy the film fest and make sure that you have plenty of popcorn!

Oh dog, what does McCann feed you on? Grilled babies? You are one hard-bitten canine torturer.
Leave the b'ys their peaceful sleep, I'm sure they meet their own demons often enough as it is.
(and that's coming from someone who hides behind the sofa when the kids watch 'It')

Love, Peace, no ghosts

Go Tosh! If I may make a suggestion, as classic scary movies go, The Haunting is magnificent (the 1963 version, no silly remakes).  It also meets the criterion of having 'The' in the title...poor Nell...

Have fun!

The Exorcist holds special meaning for me -- lots of it had been filmed where I went to school and they show it to incoming freshman  during orientation:)  When I want to really torture myself, I run sprints on the Exorcist steps!

May I suggest that you sometime watch The Thing (fits your "The" rule) and I'll even suggest the remake (1982, John Carpenter).  It's eerie, without the gore and has the most chilling music ever!

*LOL* Nova, I was going to suggest the same movie! My friend and I accidentally picked up for a party way back when. We had intended to the get the very campy Swamp Thing.

Tosh,

If you really want to give them some thoughtful horror, The Road by Cormac McCarthy is a great book.   I can't opinion the movie but the book is frightening in the mirror of life.

Tosh, try these ones out on McCann: "Room 1408", "Rose Red", or "The Shining" (1997).

Yes, our real demons always lie deep down, within ourselves.  And no conventional weapons will help us destroy them.  Real life isn't like the movies--it's much more complicated and often scarier.  Also, no filmmaker could ever make ghosts as frightening as those that haunt our memories.

But enjoy your movie night!  Movie nights with your buddies are always a blast.

Agreed with "The Shining."  It took me at least six tries to get through the whole thing. And I had to be drunk and forced to stay and watch it! That creepy old lady in the bathtub gets me every time. ::shudder::
