Tosh's Tails

One Nation Under Dog

Went to a Barack Obama rally yesterday in Raliegh NC. Or at least I tried to. There must have been 50,000 potential voters lined up for a look. This would never happen in Canada where the largest crowds are reserved exclusively for hockey games and craft fairs. American politicians are freakin Rock Stars. Always on TV. Desperate for approval. Wanting to change the world, but completely shut off from reality by a wall of security. Laundry obsessed.

Is this why they are always calling out to god for guidance? And which god are they summoning anyway? Jesus? Allah?.....the Bhudda.....Elurie (look her up)? The unnamed deity is claimed by both Democrats and Republicans so it must be nonpartisan. Or at least undecided. And how can we be sure that the supreme being is not a furry long eared canine quadruped? Am I not also cast in the image of my maker? Will my soul not fly up to that big boneyard in the sky?

My point is there are many unanswerable questions when it comes down to belief. Always was. Always will be. Religion and politics have shared a long and sordid past. The Inquisition, the Crusades, the witch burnings in Salem, and the Holocaust just to name a few. Remember, Jesus himself was put to death by the state. One would hope that by now we would have learned to leave god out of our elections but there he/she/it is namedropped all over CNN every day. Like god is gonna restore our health care system and our ailing stock portfolios. Like god is gonna decrease our taxes and create new jobs. Like god is gonna bailout our banks and rebuild confidence in american foreign policy......

Who do these political candidates think they are?.................god?

But listen to me go on. I’m just a friggin beagle stray and here I am running off at the snout about politics. I can’t even poo in a toilet let alone vote. But if I could, I would. And I would vote for any candidate who didn’t use the g-word.

dog bless

Tosh

Not so sure about you being made in God's image... think that's reserved for man... but seriously dude, men are sorta funny lookin'... when's the last time somebody walked up to McCann & cooed "Who's a pretty Seannie? You're so precious, yes you are!" God's image or not, bein' a dog is a pretty sweet gig.

About heaven though... yes there is a place for you. There's plenty of space across the Rainbow Bridge. Nikko's there and from what I understand the arthritis goes and the balls come back... so lick away Buddy!

Tosh

Isn't it's all an illusion of separation anyway? Aren't we all connected whether we like it or not? If we truly realized the affect of our big and small choices on one another, I wonder how consciously we would choose to live.

BTW, Happy Halloween! What does a beagle dress up as...a rock star?

WOOF!

Tosh... if toilet training is a step towards voting you may want to speak with Gallway the Cat (from the Vinyl Cafe)... in Vinyl Cafe Unplugged Gallway get's toilet trained by slowly moving her box up the stairs and into the bathroom, next to the can & then on top with a hole drilled through. Once she learns to flush she teams up with Arthur the Dog & they flush stuff just for fun.

Perhaps if you can learn this one you can convince Marley or the li'l McCanns to have a flushing party... keys, watches, picks & tippers... they all look really funny goin' down.

OOoooo Tosh you're a brave pup - bring up two subjects that are so intertwined and so taboo to discuss in public forums!  Quite a can of worms there....I must tread lightly.
Whatever happened to the Separation of Church and State anyway?  You go to court and you have to swear on a bible, koran or something, you say the pledge and it has to include god, our money says we trust in god.  How is this a separation of church and state?  For an atheist this is extremely furstrating. I vote for Tosh, the UnderDog in this election for sure.  That would be an interesting way to initiate CHANGE!  First black president? pshaw - how about the first Canine president?

As for being made in our maker's image...do we not all carry the DNA of our ancestors?  We are all made in their image; canine or primate alike.

Well Tosh, dyslexics worship dog anyway. Were you aware of that? Peresonally I believe but I believe his name is jesus or buddha, or krishna or jehovah or whatever your name for a supreme being is. Why can't the supreme being be all of them? He is suposed to be able to be/do anything!

And the "in God we trust" wasn't added to our money until the 20th century. Why? I dunno. Cause some Pennsylvanian suggested it and it's not popular to vote against god, I guess.

With any luck, our next elected president will be able to gather our nation together to get out of the isolationist thing we've been in. We need someone who will be able to appear willing to get along with other nations. Someone who knows that our neighbors to the North and South are part of our existence and security. Pray for us to your dog of choice that we make the "right" decision on Tuesday.

See, Tosh, I believe that "god" or "dog" or any other name a sentient being can give the creator - it's all the same being. I believe that the Creator reveals himself/herself to each person/dog in a manner that, that one will best understand - so there is really no 'true' religion/god and that there truth in all religions.
The problem is that humans are "stupid, dumb creatures" and we stumble over the differences rather than celebrating them.
And you know - the way you're made in the image of god, is not in the physical sense but in the way that dogs love with out question and forgive, oh so much. Yes there is a place for you in heaven - it would not be heaven with out you.

Tosh- at least you know where you stand!  For some of us humans, pooing on the toilet is all we have going for us!

As I was standing in line to vote I was thinking about those around me.  It's great to see the huge turn out, but how many of these people are of those "lined up for a look?"  Many have no idea what the candidates really stand for or even how our government works.  It's bipartisan stupidity.  One of the boys pointed out at the fantastic South Orange show that most Americans can't identify the PM of Canada. This general lack of knowledge of our neighbors is terrible to be sure, but do they even know who's representing them from their own states?  These are the favorite snacks of the politician - the uninformed voters!  We just "Rock the Vote" and rely on sound bites and celebrities to think for us.  Unfortunately it is very easy to take for granted something so precious as the right to vote.  We're trying to build a fortress on an eroding cliff and throwing parties instead of checking the foundation for cracks.

As for a god, you're right.  No man can claim himself savior and shouldn't declare he has one in his back pocket.  If the candidates remember good old Ben Franklin's epitaph everything should remain in perspective.  We are but worn books waiting to be amended by our Author.  Then again, what do I know?  Thanks for the chance to rant and remember "nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!"

P.S. - Stephen Harper would never have won in US entertainment, I mean politics.  Is that a good or a bad thing?

So, after spending the last four days conducting random searches for Elurie, I have come up empty handed. The internet has never heard of her, neither have the OSU library databases.  None of the people I asked knew anything about her and she does not appear in any of the mythology books on my shelves.  I am about to convince myself that you either made her up to drive me nuts or that you spelled her name wrong.  Another clue please?
