Tosh's Tails

Speaking with the angels

I can feel it now for the first time....the presence of the alcohol as it slowly invades my capillaries and blasts away my shame. Brain in denial. Body surrenders. Bollocksed. I sit back on my P.J O’Brien barstool and let the wee whiskey angels fly off with my canine soul.

And then it begins.

Doyle takes the stage like a lion takes a gazelle. Stalking. Unblinking eyes firmly focused on his prey. McCann is in unusually happy form no doubt having already spoken to several angels of his own. Lost cause. Bob looks concerned.

There is much media and many record company officials. Amazing really considering the lads are 15 years in. A little long in the teeth for pop stardom perhaps but tonite the news is all GBS. I must grudgingly admit to being just a little starstruck. Like many in the audience, I begin to feel that something important is about to happen. Macfarlane lays down the beat. Foster’s head begins to bobble and then the question is asked, “I wonder if you love me?” and the tiny room erupts.

The rest of the evening is a blur. Sparks of memory linger but i would be lying if I said I could make any sense of it. Apparently I wept.

No need to wonder Doyle.

The angels are with us.

Sounded like it was an amazing show to see. I wish I could have been there.

Take it slow, Tosh, you have a long tour ahead of you. Hope to see you at the Metropolis Tuesday night.

I know today is your day of rest. So later, whenever you have the chance, could you please express to the guys, in your sweetly poetic way, what an honour it was to be a part of the whole secret show experience.

The angels are certainly with you.

WOOF!

I second Tina's comment.
It was an unforgettable evening all around and such a privilege to have shared in it all. Can't help feeling wishful for another night just like it.

Sending you an affectionate pat on the head and a belly rub.

I think I may have drank the same poison...I may have wept too, but it may have more to do with the money I sank for said poison and my camera deciding it no longer wanted to live with me.  So much emotion on Friday -- great friends, kickasss raw show and the excitement of being part of something really special (that didn't seem possible 24 hours earlier)  I was mesmerized and then I unabashedly sang and danced and imbibed!   Please tell your gang -- a heartfelt thanks for a memorable night...rest up, Tosh, I see more amazing things in store..

I too must agree with the comments above.

Phenomenal show.  The pub venue is something I may never get to see again, so I was ecstatic just to be there (that and I never win anything and was still in shock from learning I did that morning).

There is nothing like sitting in an audience so close to the stage and having the band sing their hearts out literally from two feet away.  I would be a very happy girl if every show was like that.

But what made it even better for me was the fact that while the new stuff may have had some different sounds it was still very much 'the boys'.  Whether it is in a stadium, a pub, a small town like Brantford Ontario (where lord knows why, they seem to play on every tour - not that I can complain to a hometown show....) the music always sounds to me like the soundtrack to the greatest kitchen party in the world.

Cheers boys, as always, you've done us proud.

Awe, Tosh... you're too sweet. Good things don't need to make sense... just accept them for what they are. Must admit, I got a serious case of the warm fuzzies that night & I swear I wasn't drunk (which is normally a prerequisite). Since getting the presale cd delivered on Friday, I've been bugging my roommates with it (sadly they don't share my taste in music)... may soon be evicted, but who cares... I'll be dancing my way out the door!

Would not be worried about Bob looking concerned... don't think that was work related... probably afraid that a Bobite in his presence was going to knock him over the head and drag him off never to be heard from again (that man is far too cute).

Was very thankful that the venue folks kept a chair out for you... for a moment my heart stopped when I considered the possibility that your tender paws might have chanced upon Doyle's broken beer glass... that certainly would have been a show, though not a pleasant one.

Enjoy the rest of this trip... I know the fans will.

PS... I'm sure you'll be waking up covered in stranger's kisses... if there is a little missus back home & you're worried about going home covered in pink and red smudges, I would highly recommend Groomer's Blend Ultra White shampoo... it won't hurt your black or brown, but it will certainly get the stains out of your white patch.

Here's a haiku for your secret Vancouver show.

Limp, cold and empty
Drained by FM radio
Great Big Sea, save us!

All the best,
