Hi Bob,
Glad you enjoy Capercaille. The lead singer is Karen Matheson.
I think you had named someone else. She is awesome and has 2 or 3 solo albums which are great. I think I have 90 percent of all Capercaille's music and love it. On the Crosswinds CD, my favorite are songs 4 and 9. I heard 9 and Capercaille for the first time while shopping in Vancouver's Organic Food Store- Capers, one day and that was the start of the Capercaille journey. Last year, 2005, they came to Vancouver for one performance at the Commodore Ballroom. I took my mother and had a really great night. Couldn't get my mom on the dance floor though, but there were allot of energetic fans bouncing up and down; not unlike a GBS concert but with more room to move.
Hope you are felling better Bob.
For further recovery listening therapy, check out Flook; a Irish/ English group who won best folk group in Briatin 2005. I had the pleasure of seeing them in March this year in Vancouver. Lots of energy and amazing flute work. The bodhran player was amazing- Sean would have been impressed. I think Alan would have been impressed with Ed, the guitar player. Poor Ed had to restring his guitar 2 times during the performance, he played with such gusto. Also check out an Irish Band called Dervish. The lead singer is Cathy Jordan. Lots of fun with their music as well. You'll feeling like dancing a jig in no time.
By the way, I enjoyed your two concerts here in Vancouver this year as well. I'm topped right up on all the GBS CD's and DVD's and looking forward to the next chapter with GBS.
PS. I really enjoy your music reviews. After a 2 week trip to Ireland, I checked in to see you had writen a comment about Doolin. We stopped in Doolin for one night and after a bit of tramping, found a nice pub with enough room to sit down to listen to some pleasant music. The pub is new and in a new complex adjacent to a nice new hotel. Ireland is really doing well at the moment. Anyway, I read your comments about Donegal Danny and found I had a recording by The Barleycorn.
Thanks for encourageing me to relisten to that piece.
Keep well and Merry Christmas. Best wishes for GBS in 2007.
