It is so good to hear from you. You've been missed, very much so. Great tale about the mangled auto-repair dudes - you certainly haven't lost your own (writer's) ear. Sleep well in your double bed; it sounds as if you're going to need all the rest you can get.

You are going to be wonderful in this film. Not a bit of doubt about it - certainly not on my part, and I'll bet not on Russell's either.

Here in New York we watched Crowe promote State of Play. Seems it's off to a good start. I hope all goes well for you and the RH crew. I always love a Robin Hood film or a Dracula film! I can't say I'm happy about having nothing to do this summer ....No gbs to see! Do a great job and don't get too used to it. :)

Glad to hear that you be able to get visits. You lead such a whirlwind life that I imagined it never occurred to you that silence could be deafening.

Think of all the stories you have to tell for a long time when this is all over. Have a feeling you talked the Fair One's ear right off last weekend. Reminds me of "...Dude! You have no inner monologue...Can you imagine living with this guy?" :)

Thanks for the update! What a grand adventure you're having! I can't imagine how surreal it is to commune with the mangled ones! Don't know that I'd want to sit across from them in Craft Services!

So glad to hear the family will be able to join you on occasion. Then it can be a Doyle clan adventure! Just make sure you clean off all the blood and guts before heading home for the day...don't want to scare the not-so-wee one!

It sounds like you're having a great time and learning a ton about The Industry. Hopefully your performance will generate myriads of new Great Big Sea fans!!!

Well, it does not sound like I will be letting my GBS obsessed 3 year old daugther watch this movie! The blood, arrows in the neck. Bad enough she sings Captain Kid LOL

I saw State of Play today and just loved the first scene with Russel Crowe....The Night Pat Murphy Died....was playing on the car radio.

Alan, Loving the updates on what's happening with you!
It's wonderful your wife and son will be able to be with you some of the time! My Dh went away for a week for the first time in our almost 14 yr marriage, I hated him being so far away! I can't imagine what your wife feels like! I am grateful to her and your son for their sacrifice!

just a quick note for DaisygGirl. Having worked on movie sets in the past, I will give you the quick version and hopefully Alan will give us the long version. A stand in works with lighting crews and etc, preparing the scenes as the correct height of Alan and blocking out the scene to make sure evrything is ready for Alan's real scene. It means Alan or any of the other significant Actors do not have to be on set for certain preparation. Hope that helps. There are more things that a Stand in would help with as well, and hopefully Alan might elaborate for us.

Alan, I am so glad you got to spend Easter with your family and equally as glad they will be spending time with you in London. That will make all the difference! You are learning a lot from some very talented people. Savor the experience even though it is very overwhelming at times. You wouldn't be there if you weren't very talented yourself.

You've made me very curious as to what your shite-inducing line is. Believe me, I'll be listening for it when I watch the film on opening night.

I'm glad your wife and son will be able to visit you. Sometimes families do need to spend some time apart, but long separations can be very difficult.

I hope you're not too lonely living alone. But, you know, it's always good to have the experience of living alone, even if it's just for a brief time.

Does it feel weird having a stand in and a stunt double? I mean, does it feel weird to see these two guys wandering around who have made themselves up to look just like you?

It sure was nice hearing from you Alan. Things must be pretty hectic,but at least you were able to go home for Easter. I know you have a lot on your mind right now but I'd like to mention that the 13th annual Irish 2000 festival is on September 18th & 19th. They are having it at the Saratoga fairgrounds this year. Any chance that you might be finished the movie by then so that GBS can attend? We were there last year and from what we saw everyone just loved you guys. I told a lot of people how Great (Big Sea) you were & they are all hoping to see you there. I'll keep my fingers crossed. P.S. Have fun!

Thanks for the update, set-side! Hope the craft services are good, given your long hours! Sounds like quite the surreal time, given the period of the piece.

In watching the credits for the film State of Play -- yes, I wanted to see how The Night that Pat Murphy Died was credited:)-- I was really struck by how many people go in to making and marketing a movie. Most of the jobs I understood, but one stood out that I don't think I have ever heard before -- what exactly is a Gang Boss?

I read a comment from Sir Ridley Scott that we should expect "More Gladiator than Men in Tights" from this Robin Hood movie...from what descriptions you have given, I can see that he was right.

Sorry, just wanted to add a big CONGRATS to "PAT MURPHY" for being in the new Russell Crowe movie 'State of Play'. I admit I almost wet myself when I heard the song before we ever got to see Russell. Sadly I mad a sound that should not ever come out of a human and started singing along...several people started gawking at the crazy redhead...but it was well worth it. Great song, great movie...

So congrats to you and the b'ys for scoring a piece of the soundtrack :o)

Go Habs? Ouch... Sorry to see you wrote that... As a Leafs fan I must write to comment on your Go Habs comment... Would like the Cup to come back to Canada, but not at the expense of having to hear Canadiens fans ramble on about how they now have 25 Cups or whatever the number is... Don't want the Cup to end up in Ottawa either...

As for the movie stuff, sounds VERY cool... Can hardly wait to see the movie, and since there was a post on here about Great Big Sea content in State of Play, I believe I'll have to see that as well!!!

Alan ~ Great FTR ! You sure can write wonderfully ! Looks like a great alternative way to make money in your golden post GBS years ...GOD forbid that day ever finds us !!!

Well, you're way across the pond in England, but wanted to thank you & The B'ys as you were here - in Metro Detroit this past Thursday night on the radio. The CBC aired your Concert on Demand from The Rock ~ St Johns -St Paddy's week - on my hour drive home : ) : ) : ) ...and I only had to wait 4 years. Each night's drive home, I tune in hoping they will have a GBS concert, and I have never caught one since discovering your music 4 years ago. There's been alot of other wonderful things ie: Nelson Mandela's 46664 birthday concert bash, etc.(thanks) but nothing as wonderful as a GBS concert!

Had the pleasure of going to the Windsor St Paddy's concert...so this was a great gift, as I had been very sick for the rest of March & part of April. Please convey to Sean that I hope his lungs are healing fine and will be 100% right quick. My problem also was there..and when you don't have enough oxygen getting into your body, it is nothing you want to be -even close- to permanant. Is this what emphazima feels like? Thank God for Dr.'s (many) *Drugs (many too & too many!)* Nebulizers * Inhalers * Steroid Shots & Chicken Soup! And, discovering you have food & environmental allergies that you can be pro-active about is empowering. I hope Sean will stop smoking. I was thinking about him when I could barely breathe - would hate for his beautiful voice to ever be affected by something he has direct control over. That would be a real travesty!
Things just get better & better- Last night on the CBS TV~ 100 years of HAB's - is there a cable channel that stretched that far across the pond ? Too good to be true. My 1st thought was ~ the HAVE to have Alan on... he is one of their biggst FAN's! Then finally, there you were! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOooo!

Will be going this weekend to catch Russell's movie. Great on Paddy Murphy : ) Hope the Fair One and the Prince will be joining you for your upcoming birthday- Happy 40th! - soon! Till then, enjoy your semi-bachelor time. What a 40th birthday set of memories you are creating there ! Hard to top!
