Alan, I don't think we're going to get tired of hearing about your good fortune. I always enjoy reading about your exciting experiences -- I love how much joy you get out of them. It reminds me to look for the joy in life.

You are most definitely a very lucky group of men. I would never tire of your stories either. It must have been an amazing night for you to be there, especially at the request of Bob Gainey himself.

My only complaint? Why couldn't you get the camera rolling to capture the anthems?????? I was in Montreal at the time, was able to here Oh Canada, but not lucky enough to hear the Start Spangled Banner.

I agree, we GBS fans will never tire of hearing your good fortune! It's great to hear that you and the boys are still having so much fun!

It would be great to see the anthems via video. We in Ontario got the Toronto game that night, and with a bizzilion channels on satelite, it took me forever to find the Montreal game. By the time I found it, play had already started :(

Regarding your good fortune... bored or resentful... N E V E R !

I can say that I look SOOOO forward to it ALL -

Julie is right, you are such a beautiful writer... you make us all feel like we are standing there next to you- enjoying every step of the journey.
This is all so strange - because the truth is most of us will never have
the pleasure of meeting you directly in this lifetime-
giving you a hug or shaking your hand and saying "thanks!".
But, you write so openly about all the wonderful experiences
you've had, the memories of your childhood, the great
opportunities that come your way, etc
& it all comes from the heart...we all feel we know you,
& would call you "friend".
So, friend YOU KEEP DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING because it brings
so much joy into our lives.

You show us so much heart with each piece you write or sing,
we all see that you understand our "collective hearts"...
then the life details in-between become somehow unimportant.
We would all want to have you over to our homes for B B Q - a pint
and a long visit if we could - but know how unrealistic that is...
so this is a great thing -
along with the CD/DVD's & concert experiences & You Tubes.

Happy Days indeed- so glad your family could be there to enjoy it all with you at the game.

If anyone can post where it can be seen, I am really hopeful, because Toronto was all we go in Metro Detroit also. That SUCKED ! Boooo!

Les Habitants are my natural enemy—I'm in Boston, and the Canadiens are in first place for cryin’out loud—but this journal entry transcends any loyalty we have to the Bleu, Blanc, et Rouge or the Black and Gold.

Soooo glad to hear about the experience. Even though the Habs lost that night, I'm sure that you guys all had a great time! Pretty cool that Bob Gainey wanted you there! And the knuckles with Ryder...that had to be awesome!

And getting to spend time with you bro and sisters? That's not too shabby either!

This post made me so happy as an MTL/Habs fan girl. I didn't catch the game but I'm now searching for a YouTube posting of your national anthem. I can't wait for you guys to come back here and perform again. I'm really looking forward to it.

What a great read! I read about Alan joining BR on stage over at the Blue Rodeo discussion board. Very cool! It was actually thanks to a Great Big Picnic in Summerside, PEI (summer of 1999) that I got into Blue Rodeo. So thanks Great Big Sea!

I concur with gbsgirl - thanks, Alan, for sharing your joy with us. As a huge Habs fan myself, I LOVED the video. I can only imagine your glee watching the boys trot by to hit the ice. I'd have been squealing like a 12-year-old and embarassing myself completely.
