Alan's From The Road

TOUR DIARY - DECEMBER 31, 2009 - HOME

Where did that decade go?  Feels like not so long ago me and Sean and Bob and Darrell were nervously gathered in an old house on Gower Street awaiting to play for what would turn out to be the largest gathering of people in Newfoundland history.

A decade and a million gigs, flights, recording sessions later, we are still at it.  I guess you could say that GBS is about work in our third decade.  Our first item on the to do list is to finish what we started before Christmas.  We all head back to New Orleans in a couple of days to spit and polish 13 or 14 new tunes for what should be our 10th CD.  Should be fun.

Here’s a look at the team assembled to build the new GBS offering.

GBS Team

From left, our Bob, Kyle from the Music Shed, Engineer Mike Napolitano, our Magoo, Yours Truly, our KMac, our Foster, and Producer Steve Berlin.

I am very grateful for all your attention and support over the past year.  It’s been an odd one that found me on the saddle as much as the stage.  I feel very fortunate for too many things to mention.  I would just like to say Thanks to you, Dear Readers, for your company here.

Happy 2010 to you and all your Loved Ones.

Cheers,
Alan

I wasn't sure your Millennium show was the largest gathering of people in Newfoundland's history; I thought it was, but wasn't absolutely sure, especially in regard to the Pope's visit. Now that I do know for sure that it was, thanks to you, I'll have to edit that in.

May this "third decade" be everything you've worked so hard for and hoped so much for. May it be everything you deserve so much. Leaving just a bit of room for the fourth to be even better, of course. The attention and support will remain constant for the duration; those belong to you.

A Happy 2010 to you. From all indications, it's going to be a good one.

That decade certainly did go rather quick. But it was a wonderful decade. Twas the one in which I discovered GBS. Hard to believe its been almost 8 years since I became a fan.

I think I speak for everyone here when I say that i'm glad you guys have lasted as long as you have. As you put yourself in St. John's "The first 16 years have been pretty great, here's to 16 more." I couldn't agree more with that statement.

Thanks for the lovely picture, just another to add to the ever-growing collection. Can't wait for the new record, it's going to be amazing!

Hope you and your loved ones have an amazing 2010! This year will be amazing! Hope to see you in St. John's for the 2010 JUNOs!

Take care,
Krista

Alan:  I am living out west in the States.  Wondering if you will be playing out this way as you have in the past.  Maybe Seattle or Portland, Oregon.  Would love to see you all.

As a French Canadian family, we have kept the traditional New Year's Blessing in our family. After reading your beautiful FTR, I just to want to send a blessing your way: God Bless you guys on this journey! You will never know how much your work has enriched lives, given people hope, and made them share a dance instead of a cry. Thank YOU for the music, for the joy that it brings me and my loved ones. My wish for this decade to is to actually meet you some day, share a pint or two and thank you in person.
We will endure winter knowing that May brings you on our movie screens and Summer brings us new GBS music. Cheers! Bonne annee!

You're very welcome, dear Alan.  To say that it's been a pleasure to read your journal entries would be an understatement.  In fact, I think we fans should be thanking YOU and the rest of the GBS crew.  You guys have one of the most amazing jobs in the world, but you do make many sacrifices to keep it.  And thanks for caring about the fans, rather than being snotty, stuck-up, big-headed, rich guys; that means a lot.

Have a wonderful year and decade.  Keep playing, keep singing, and keep enjoying life.  Hopefully, you'll be able to spend more time at home in 2010 than you did in 2009.
